This is a good little bildungsroman about a brother and sister in foster care due to their alcoholic mother’s inability to care for them. There’s a pretty graphic rape scene and some other sad things, but it wasn’t just swimming in hopelessness like some similar books I’ve read. Favorite quote: “If wishes were horses, I’d have my own herd.”
