Whole Lotta Numbers Meme

The lovely and talented Eva over at A Striped Armchair piqued my interest in this one.  It sounds like great fun, so without further ado, here it is:

What was I doing 10 years ago?
This was shortly after my divorce was final, so I was still in pretty bad emotional shape.  I remember slumping on my empty bed night after night, chain-smoking (I have since quit) and bemoaning my lot in life.  Other major life transitions also occurred during this time:  I started a new job (which I still have) and I bought a new home in the wannabe wealthy north end of the city.  I have since moved back to the poor side of town, and I fit in much better here.  My older daughter says it’s because I’m just one step up from trailer trash.  I think I agree with her.

    Five Jobs I have Had

    ↑                    ↑                       ↑

    • Lifeguard
    • Swimming Coach
    • Grounds Maintenance
    • Dispatcher
    • Librarian

    Five of My Habits

  • I must read every night before bed or I feel guilty.
  • If there is historical or scientific information in a book I’m reading that I’m not very familiar with, I have to research that information after I’m finished.
  • I like taking baths, and the water has to be so hot it nearly scalds me.
  • I wear floor-length flannel nightgowns all winter long.
  • I sometimes bite my nails so far down that they bleed.

Five Things I Would Do if I Were a Billionaire

    Five Fluffy Things About Me
I’m not very fluffy, but I’ll give this a shot.

  • I get teary-eyed often, but I hide it pretty well.  I sometimes find myself getting all choked-up when I see elderly people struggling to cross the street.  I think of how full of life they must have been when they were young and how sad they must be now that their lives will soon be over.  Geez, I’m all verklempt just writing about this!
  • I’m very generous.  That’s fluffy, isn’t it?
  • My flannel nighties are kind of fluffy.
  • I love all animals, including girly critters like kittens and butterflies.  I love flowers too.
  • I like little things, like miniature tea sets and tiny little decorative bottles.
  • ——————–

All right, that’s it!  Consider youself tagged if:
    You have “verklempt” problems.
You enjoy giving gifts more than receiving them.
You think flannel is a totally underrated fabric.
Butterflies and/or kittens are at least a small part of your decor.
You “ooh” and “aah” over itty-bitty things.

    1. I loved your answers! (And thanks for the compliment: making me blush) I tear up at random things all the time too. And at weird points in movies: I teared up (and some might’ve slipped out) during Pirates of the Caribbean!! (I felt so bad for the poor British soldiers, valiantly fighting pirates that couldn’t die: so futile)

When did you live in Germany?

    2. Eva, I’m going to have to watch “Pirates…” again to see what you mean. I recently teared-up during “Kung-Fu Panda,” for God’s sake! We are such wimps!

I lived in Germany in the late ’80’s.

    3. You were a lifeguard and swimming coach! I’d be happy to take some lessons from you, as I hope to take up swimming at some point soon … 🙂

    4. I take it you don’t mind peanut butter, then? ;D

I tear up at random stuff all the time. I think the low point was getting teary-eyed at a bank commercial.

    5. You are such a sensitive chickie. I’m making a Peanut Butter Pie this week for the 4th of July party… come on over.

    6. Dorothy, I’d love to teach you! It’s too bad you don’t live here.

Love, which bank commercial? Maybe I can find it on you tube.

Care, I’m not sensitive at all (sniff, sniff). Just e-mail me the pie, please.

    7. Peanut butter’s a wonderful thing. It’s available over here, but most Koreans think it’s disgusting.

I have a weakness for redheaded men…when Mark McGwire played for the Cardinals, every season was an ongoing occasion for joy.

    8. The thing is, I can’t remember exactly which one it was, I just remember being shocked at myself for choking up at a bank commercial of all things. It did have violin music, which might be half an excuse. ;D Also, it was Swedish and I doubt it’s on YouTube.

    9. As a fellow peanut butter addict, I’m very intrigued by the sound of peanut butter pie. 😛

    10. Wow. Your five habits are so me! I have to read in bed or I can’t fall asleep. I often look up info from books I’ve read (google is my favorite source!) I LOVE scalding hot baths (especially if a book is included) and I used to bite my nails (still have to keep them clipped short). I haven’t worn a flannel nightgown since I was about ten, though…

    11. Aww, Jeane, you don’t know what you’re missing re: lack of luscious flannel nighties!
